ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT FORUM OF THE NORDIC REGIONS IN PETROZAVODSK 2-3 June, 1999
The fourth Energy and Environment forum of the Nordic Regions, held in Petrozavodsk, Republic of Karelia on 2nd–3rd of June, attracted a great number of experts and persons interested in energy and the environment to the shore of Lake Onega. Nearly 300 people took part in the opening of the forum, while the Forum Reception, hosted by the President of the Republic of Karelia, Mr. Sergey Katanandov, attracted nearly 400 guests.

The principle themes of the forum were the promotion of energy efficiency and environmental awareness, development of the ESCO concept and a strategy for Joint Implementation. Lectures were
given on heat supply, water supply and waste disposal service, development of telecommunications, complementing construction, international co-operation and realisation of energy saving projects
within the Tacis programme.
The Forum was arranged in co-operation with the Republic of Karelia, the Finnish Foreign Trade Association, Association of Northwest Russia and the Ecotech-Energy-50 Association. The Finnish Foreign Trade Association and Planora Oy were responsible for the practical arrangements of the
Forum.
At the Exhibition arranged in relation to the Forum the participating companies had an unique opportunity to get familiar with decision-makers in all the above mentioned areas, to establish business relations with them and to get to the core of the current situation in the energy industry both in Russia and in the Nordic Countries.
