"Karelenergo" supports idea of increasing of a share of nuclear power in a power balance of the Russian Federation

Mr. Efim Ashkinezer, "Karelenergo" general manager supports idea of increasing of a share of nuclear power in the general power balance of the country. The press-secretary of the company Mr. Alexander Ershov has informed about it.

According to the press-secretary, Mr. Ashkinezer gave a reason that power consumption has considerably increased last years in Karelia and in the whole country.

In connection with an extreme temperatures energy system of Russian Federation works with unprecedented loads. Press-service of JSC "RAO UES of Russia" said, that already on January 18, historical maximum of electric load of 148,4 thousand megawatt has been recorded. In this connection authorities of some regions have warned the population about necessity to save the electric power.

The academician of the Russian Academy of Science Mr. Victor Mihajlov has declared, that such situation testifies to unreadiness of a power supply system of the country for high loads. As an option for the decision of a problem share of nuclear power in total amount of generation should be increased. For today this number insignificantly exceeds 16 %.

The head of Rosatom Mr. Sergey Kirienko has declared necessity to increase the number of nuclear power stations in the country to bring a share of nuclear power in the energy balance up to 25 %.
